Safety

We take the necessary precautions and steps to ensure the safety of our workers and the public. We determine safety requirements before working on a project and make sure our workers have the required safety training and certifications.

Central Core Safety Procedures

Fibre optic installation with the highest level of safety

The nature of our industry puts us in situations where our employees work underground in confined spaces, in the middle of intersections with active traffic, at high heights, and other environments that pose safety risks. At Central Core, we prioritize and follow strict procedures to ensure the safety of the public, including pedestrians, vehicle traffic, and our team members.

Certified and safety-trained workers

All of our technicians must successfully complete the required safety training courses before working on site. Our workers are experienced at recognizing safety hazards, understanding best safety practices, and incident response.

All of our technicians have completed:

  • Confined Space Entry Certification
  • Traffic Control/Lane Technician Certification
  • Fall Protection
  • WHMIS (Workplace hazardous materials information system)

If additional safety certifications or refresher courses are required, we bring in certified instructors to perform on-the-job training.

How we protect our workers and ensure public safety

With each new client or project, we review the scope of work along with the safety regulations, to determine what safety requirements are needed to complete the project. When working with fibre optics, our employees always have the proper safety gear and equipment along with the knowledge of fibre fragment control.

At Central Core, we set and follow these rules consistently:

  • All employees entering the site must wear safety glasses with side shields and protective gloves
  • All employees entering a confined space, must follow all company and worksafe BC regulations.
  • Properly inspect and dispose of fibre pieces and scraps
  • The work area should be well-ventilated and well-lit
  • Thoroughly clean work area after the job is complete
  • No smoking in or around the work area
  • Thoroughly wash hands after job is complete
  • No food or beverages in the work area
  • Avoid touching eyes or face until hands have been thoroughly washed
  • Never look directly into the end of fibre cables

Our safety promise

Fibre optic scraps are dangerous when accidentally ingested or pierced through the skin, and staring directly into the light at the end of fibre optic cables can lead to eye damage. These are a few of the many risks our industry faces. This highlights the importance of working with a team that strictly follows safety guidelines. At Central Core, we are intentional and careful in our approach as the safety of the public and our workers can never be compromised.

“We’ve established a strong reputation for industry-leading fibre optic cable installation, testing, and splicing – on time and on budget.”
